Lisbon Armchair | Via Romani
When considering Spanish Renaissance furniture, the rich design influence of Portugal’s colonial era is not to be overlooked. Sharing many elements of the Spanish chair, the Portuguese example we reproduce is beautifully distinct. Portugal, although adjacent to Spain, had its own unique sense of design, often bold and quirky, with its own national flavor. Our Lisbon chair, with its ornate and boldly crowned back, hand-tooled leather and turned finials are a testament to Portugal's love of elaborate and energetic design and our Lisbon chair pays homage to this flair. Featuring handsomely carved and decorated saddle leather, stretched unto a frame constructed using mortise and tenon joinery. The weightiness and the carving of the solid wood frame exemplify both elegance and strength.
